Forecast for March will appear optimistic, however. In MAA predicts that there will be significant discounts offered by various car companies to increase the gap of the current stock of vehicles prior to the implementation of the GST.

Car sales in the month of February of this year fell by 0.6%, or 328 units, compared to the same period last year, according to the Malaysian automotive Association (MAA). In 50,390 total units were sold — 44,917 5,473 passenger cars and commercial vehicles.

According to Mac, the reason for the slip in sales can be attributed to a wait-and-see approach, working consumers, because the majority still believe that the price of cars will decrease after the introduction of the tax on goods and services (STS) come April 1.

As for manufacturing, total vehicle build for February 2015 was recorded in 46,958 units — reducing 722 units. Over the same period last year, a total of 47,680 cars. As for the breakdown, the figures for the production of passenger cars was recorded on 44,023 (growth from 43,092 units in 2014) while the figures for commercial vehicles recorded on 2,935 units (4.588 units in 2014).

For comparison, in February 2014, a total of 50,718 cars for sale. In General 45,704 passenger cars were sold during this period, with the numbers for commercial vehicles in the peg, surprisingly, below the figure in relation to February 2015 in 5,014 of units sold.
