The Mazda CX-3 has finally made its official running debut here in Malaysia, a year after crossover made its global debut in 2014 at the motor show in Los Angeles. Available in just the only option, a fully imported (CBU Japan) crossover for the price of RM131,218 (on the road without insurance).

Externally, the CX-3’s standard equipment list includes automatic led headlamps with adaptive front lighting system, auto-leveling and led daytime running lights. Led tail lights and also as Rear fog lights (rear fogs to do with halogen bulbs instead).


On offer here is a skyactiv-G 2.0 liter, which was a choice of five colors – soul red metallic, crystal White pearl, jet black, meteor grey and deep blue Crystal. Each purchase will also include a three year guarantee and free service from Bermaz.


As we previously said, the first batch of the CBU models account for only 2 000. After this first run of cars, considerations are made locally-to produce (CKD) models. This may see a reduction in price for the CX-3, though whether the specifications will remain the same is still not clear. In the event that Bermaz continues to import CBU model, it will not be from neighboring Thailand.

The CX-3 also gets hit in the aesthetics thanks to the bronze finish of the units located on front, sides and rear of the crossover – something not found on the lower variants of the Thai-spec model. Wheel options are limited to only a single 18-inch five twin-spoke variant, wrapped in 215/50R18 tires. Other standard equipment includes automatic wipers, power-folding side mirrors (with turn) and the sunroof.

Security Suite on the CX-3 is quite comprehensive, but, with DSC electronic stability control system, traction control and abs with EBD and BA all present. The crossover is equipped with six airbags well (dual front, side and curtain). Hill start assist and emergency stop signal are also part of the package, but no I-ActivSense Suite (Smart city Brake system, rear view Monitoring, lane departure warning, etc.) here. For RM1,900 extra, Mazda Skytint (security tint) can be specified as parameters.

Like the Mazda 2, the system can be upgraded with navigation functionality at an additional RM1,270. Other highlights in the cabin include leather-suede combo seats (60:40 split folding rear) and one-zone air conditioning (only front vents). Boot capacity of 350 liters.

With skyactiv-G power paired with skyactiv-Drive six-speed automatic transmission, sending drive exclusively to the front wheels (2WD). The engine also benefits from Mazda’s I-stop engine idling stop system that automatically shuts down the engine when the car is stationary to save fuel.

Mazda CX-3 enters the Malaysian market crossover to directly compete with Honda HR-V in top spec HR-V 1.8 l V, the price is well below Mazda at RM114,744, makes the CX-3 and its distinct design is the warrant premium, you will have to pay? As for the driver, Mazda’s active driving display (heads-up display) and multi (media & cruise control) leather steering wheel (electric power) that comes with shift paddles. There is also a drive selection switch (sport mode), rear view camera and Keyless operation (entry and engine start).

If an option name doesn’t already give, under the hood, the CX-3 You will find the 2.0 liter skyactiv-G Gasoline engine, which produces 154 HP at 6000 rpm and 204 Nm of torque at 2800 rpm. For comparison, the Mazda 3 and the CX-5’s 2.0 liter mill of outputs of 162 HP/210 nm and 154 BHP/198 Nm, respectively.

Proudly wear Mazda’s signature Kodo styling, the CX-3 is quite attractive, measuring 4,275 mm in length, 1,765 mm in width, and 1535 mm in height. The B-segment crossover rides on the same skyactiv-chassis that underpins the smaller Mazda 2, and has a Curb weight 1,211 kg.

Moving inside, the interior layout is almost identical to the Mazda 2, except for a few differences in trim color pieces. Here, Brenda MOR connection 7.0 inch touch screen multimedia system dominates the dashboard. The system can either be controlled via the touch control dial or the commander.
